Interior Designer Review - Kelly Hoppen

Kelly Hoppen is a British interior designer who has created a unique style that captures the spirit of the east while incorporating the best of Western craftmanship. Her work is characterised by a colour scheme that blends neutral shades, soft taupes, rich chocolates and warm beiges, contrasted with dark wood. Her style is elegant and sophisticated. Her work has been featured around the world in magazines and newspapers including House & Garden, Elle Decoration and the Sunday Times. In 1996 she was awarded the first British Interior Designer of the Year Award and she has recently launched her own range of fabrics, floors coverings, paint and accessories for the home. Will they ever go out of style? We doubt it. Forged by the mid century gods of furniture design, Ray and Charles Eames, these chairs were the epitome of innovation when they were first conceived and still top the charts today for their timeless design. These classic chairs have a way of transforming an ordinary room into something spectacular.

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman

 

This was the first chair the Eames’ designed for a high-end market. These chairs are made of moulded plywood with a leather cushion seat. The Eames Lounge Chair appeals to us for several reasons. It is a classic design that has been in production continuously since its creation. In addition to the style, it is also very comfortable, a combination not always found in high end design.

 

The Eames Low Timber Chair

This chair was designed using technology for moulding plywood that the Eames developed before and during The Second World War. This chair was designed for the "Organic Furniture Competition" in 1940, exploring the natural evolution of furniture in response to the rapidly changing world. This chair won the competition. 

 

Eiffel Base Shell Chair

The Eames Eiffel Chair is a quality chair that is light, comfortable and strong. A turning point in design, these were the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs. the current models look exactly the same as the originals. They remain unupholstered, in keeping with the Eames condition that materials be used honestly and unselfconsciously. This chair has only become more popular since its inception and is the perfect addition to any modern home.
